Ragnhild Margaretha Eliassen has a background in graphic design and advertising. Art education from 3 years at Oslo Art School and BA Honors Fine Art from UH in England. She debuted at the Norwegian Høstutstilling exhibition in 2004.
In the exhibition “Animal Party” at Gallery Schaeffers Gate 5 you will recognize your soft toy animals, Pez vending machines and cool plastic ninja turtles in a mix of
quasi religious symbols and absurd objects. The artist dissects and eases the cozy and forlorn and allows them to be resurrected in a playful and unassuming exhibition consisting of dark drawings and colorful sculptures which may seem recognizable. Actually, we are never completely done with either the trauma or the toy animals.

Artist Statement

Fine Art
My work is from a personal level of perception. It´s about relations, questioning humanness and the conflict between individual desire and the social structure. To reflect this the work can often appear as funny or absurd. Subject matter is the body’s sensation and psychology.
My work is mainly 3D / sculpture and main media is specifically found cheap materials, such as toys, plastic bottles, plaster and paper. I incorporate suitable main stream and commercial elements into the sculpture that becomes carriers of collective story.
My work is about ”picking up pieces”- re-creation of human experience, mending and repair. It is specific actually, I love the Isis & Osiris story and it has a strong relation to my personal experience of desire, trauma and anxiety. My process for bringing my work to conclusion is open. It has beginning but no end, by building layers the work develop along the way and becomes a re- telling /creation of memories, experience and reflections.
